History

The Cleveland Hotel London is located at 39 – 40 Cleveland Square, just off the Bayswater Road in London.

Cleveland Square was most likely named after a local developer called William Frederik Cleveland who lived in the local area in the 1850’s. Although most of the square is Victorian, the style of architecture with it’s regency facades – designed to draw the eye – is more similar to the Georgian style of building.

Sandwiched between Paddington, Notting Hill and Hyde Park, Bayswater is a vibrant multicultural part of London. It is an area that is full of interesting history which many many famous residents both past and present have chosen to call home – including Sir Winston Churchill, Sir JM Barrie and Thomas Hardy.

More recently the area has played host as a location to a number of films including Love Actually, Closer and the Italian Job.

To familiarise you with the local area more The Cleveland Hotel London has designed an interactive walking tour in our Concierge section to help our guests get to know the area better.
